I made this poster for Dead Beat, who specialize in all things music in Dallas, Texas.

This will be the first in a new series of concerts at the historic Texas Theatre in Oak Cliff. If you don't know what the Texas Theatre is, one quick history lesson is that this is the theatre Lee Harvey Oswald went to after he apparently shot JFK and then Officer Tippit. This place has been extremely close to being demolished multiple times. Thankfully it is still around and I've gotten to see some really great films there, like Enter the Void and The Conversation.

When I was asked to do this, I was given complete artist freedom to come up with just a summer themed poster. I immediately thought of bad surf genre films and the greatest surfer to ever live, Satan. So here they are combined. I drew out everything with pen and ink, then added the color and text digitally.

I am unsure if there will be any posters printed. If so I will post info on how to get one. If you are in the area, check out this show.

I'm blogging again.

To celebrate, here is an unreleased illustration that was made for an art collective book that may or may not be still in the works. There is an accompanying illustration to this one, but I will probably release that as a print with this one in the future.

I started up a small project, kind of a DIY print series that involves barely any tools or computers. The rules are to write out something I have heard or said (excluding anything heard from the media, like movies and music) but without using any rulers or tools other than pen, paper, markers and my right hand. The computer is only for scanning and printing, no photoshopping or manipulating any mistakes, etc. etc.

My website has been updated. There are new designs and illustrations as well. The Vomitorium link will later be changed from the blog to a new Vomitorium website. I will post a link when that is completed.

I've been trying out different illustration techniques lately, mostly solid color shading. I haven't used gradients in my work, but that could change soon. I'm becoming more interested in the illustration styles of graphic novels, gig posters and vintage film posters.

It's been a long time since an update but that is because I've been staying busy.

I got a job as a designer for a new company called Racquet Skinz. We produce custom graphics that are then printed and applied to blank racquets that are made by Ektelon. I've learned a lot about the sport of racquetball and I've enjoyed learning to take excellent designs and fit them to the small area for graphics on a slim racquet.

I'll post pics when designs are done. I've done over 50 since I started in February, but we haven't launched the store yet so we haven't actually produced a completed racquet yet (at least one that I have designed.)

I am working on a zine of only my work, which is a first, to be published by CALICO GROUNDS in Houston. CALICO GROUNDS is a DIY press run by my friends Josh and Steven in Houston. I have my concept ready and I've started getting my illustrations underway. It will consist of three series of illustrations.

I'm a busy guy. When i'm not working or working on something I am either in class or asleep. I miss friends.

Here is a piece of mine from VOMITORIUM 6. Feel free to hate it.

^ The purpose of this series of black metal inspired paintings is to show how comical it truly is to go to the lengths of caking on black and white makeup (corpse paint.) There really isn't anything metal about it.

I went as far as to put on corpse paint just to really see how long it takes to pull it off and how awful that facepaint feels. It didn't stay on me long, but I did bake a vegan pizza with some friends while wearing the makeup.

Here is a poster I made for a upcoming zine fest. For one of my finals we had to make an event poster and create a logo, so I threw his together rather quick. Could've been better, but I don't want to over work anything.

I saw Kylesa the other night with Judd, Cole, Jessie and his friend whose name escapes me. It was a pretty excellent show and they played every song I wanted to hear/see live.

I know these photos are bad quality, but they are some of my only mementos. I took pictures of Kylesa in Houston once that were good, so I didn't feel the need to redo it.

That band rules. Probably one of my top 5 of all time.

Vomitorium 6 is underway... should be a great issue.

Who loves me.

Anyways, there were really different times in my life when i was 17 and such. I used to actually do something productive or along those lines every single night. Now i'm just barely getting stuff done. But the stuff i've been working on makes me very happy. And it's not often that I do something and stay content with how it looks. But these next series of illustrations are so cool. Doom and gloom cool.

I'm considering getting silkscreen prints of each of them and selling them all together. I want as many people as possible to be able to have them when they are done to put on their wall (if they want).

I looked through some old photos and I finally found the thousands of pictures I took for a stop motion video for my friend's old band. We spent days scoping out places to get interesting pictures. We went to "the Bridge" as we called it. It's a bridge over the highway on 183 in Euless. Lots of cool kids went there a lot or something. Also my friend's father proposed to his wife by hanging a banner over the bridge before they completely fenced it off (to avoid pricks tossin' bricks and pumpkins into cars going 70 MPH.)

We were always paranoid of cops. We got harassed a lot just for coming out at night, so we took a ton of pictures before any of the people around the neighborhood saw us. Chances are, people think anyone hanging out on a bridge over the highway late at night is up to no good, and I guess the area isn't to "nice," but whatever.

Here is Mikey Shits when we were walkin back to my car. I like lights in trees. As unnatural and surely distracting to birds, they make it nice to stand outside at night in an area like where we were.

Mikey Shits and I used to go wander the woods all the time. We also went to ditches a lot too. We always looked for the most interesting ditch to wander. Sure it sounds stupid and a waste of time, but it made us feel young and care free. Once we went to check out some stencils that someone we knew did in this really really badass ditch. It was huge and real deep. We didn't realize it was a real sketchy area of Hurst or somewhere near there. When checking out the tiny stencils, we realized they were covering up other tags and gang graff. as well as pure stoner crap. It was pretty funny to see a huge shitty throw up that said "listen to stoner rock. sleep. slayer. cephalic carnage." Then there were tons of crap drawings of bongs and inverted crosses. When we walked further down the ditch, getting more into what looked like crip graffiti, we weren't paying attention to a group of people at the overpass above us. My friend and his girlfriend were riding a bmx bike around while my friends and I were just wandering and looking at funny throw ups and tags, nothing good. We then realized some guy had come down the ditch and was watching us. He was in a wife beater, probably 25, and he had a pit bull or some dog like that on a leash with all the "hard ass" studs that all the "tuff" guys put on their crap to look more intimidating.

We just flashed a peace sign and asked what's up and told him his dog was cool. He said "yeah." and then tried scaling a 45˚ wall with his dog, who clearly couldn't make it. Instead of picking the dog up, the guy just tried forcing the dog to somehow learn how to get up a steep concrete ramp. We watched him jerk the dog around on the leash and yell at it saying "don't be so fuckin' stubborn" and a bunch of other demotivators. Twas quite the sight to see and really made me sad to know people like that have dogs and treat them like shit.

Once the guy left, we decided maybe we should get the fuck out of there since it was clearly a gang hangout. I'm sure they appreciated a bunch of deformed face and skull stencils in flourescent pink and orange on top of their dark blue shit. Oh well, shit happens.

I might be participating in an art show in Ft. Worth this Saturday. It's all street art related stuff, so if I can stencil something nice by friday, I'll be in it. Otherwise, i'll just go to hangout.

I'm working on a short story/ picture book/ comic or whatever anyone wants to call it. It's about a guy who gets a disease and doesn't do anything about it. It's going to be a comedy. My friend Jodie Cockburn wrote it, and now I'm in charge of drawing it and coloring it. It's taking much longer than I thought because I'm actually making this one good. I may or may not put it in VOM6 or just make a stand alone zine.
Here's a very rough sneak peak of the character's infected hand that's on it's way to stop an alarm clock...

When I finish a day of work, my boss and I test out products and paint the wall at his home. We couldn't think of something to write, so we went with my cat's name, Stella. Here are pics of what we did, he's finishing it out...

Some recent things I've acquired for my place:

Obama Commemorative Plate: My Grandfather doesn't like Barack. No one in my immediate family does. I have about 4 cousins out of 30 something who liked him. So my grandpa got me this as a joke gift for December's Annual gift day, or Xmas. Instead of finding it as a joke, I thought it was pretty awesome. It is really hilarious sitting on my shelf and everyone makes a comment about it. It's OK though, I like looking like an old lady who has plates commemorating everything, especially if it's a guy I voted for and trust.

Young Widows tour print: Good show. Solid album. I'm waiting on their 7" series to come in the mail...

Coliseum show print: Intronaught made these. Google them and check out their other stuff. I'm trying not to spend money I don't have, but this I couldn't pass up.

I saw this the other day, it's kind of a perk of traffic.

I'm a little too busy to post new blog entries all the time... but when I have something good to say I will say it. As for now I'm back in school, getting closer to graduating with my degree, working on the weekends, hanging out with some excellent people, spending time with some excellent persons, drawing when I can, writing when I can, and of course day dreaming of the absolute best things to create when I have the time. I am determined to make a short story with illustrations by the end of the month. It may be my part of VOM6 when the time comes.

Motor Oil

It has been a while since I updated, but i've been extremely busy. With trying to balance school, Vomitorium stuff, trying my best to not fail web design 1, drawing extensive storyboards, trying to organize a recycling club, and remembering to eat has been really rough.

Only two more finals left and then I am done for the year. I will be starting a job right when i finish this weekend hopefully.

Brika and I went to Art Conspiracy and got to see Zicole's painting and then we watched her band Mount Righteous play. Twas fun. The volunteers there are very clever at duping people like me into paying 3 bucks to do a tricycle race...

This is from an ad campaign I worked on for my Art Direction class. I'm not very fond of the text at the bottom or the drop shadows. I will fix it all before portfolio. Thanks Justin for putting up with that photo shoot for 2 hours. Crosley Radio has some pretty cool record players that make mp3's from your records. The quality of the songs aren't that great, but hey... how else am I supposed to get mp3's of vinyl only releases?

The following are two shots from a storyboard I am working on for a class. The story goes somewhat like this:

"Teenage boy cannot sleep and has nightmares, so he goes to a doctor who looks very similar to Tina Fey who then later hypnotizes him into a perfect sleep with amazing dreams."

This week I am off from classes. That means lots of nothing to do. I don't have a job. I do freelance design work when I can, aside than that, school keeps me very busy during the week. Its just those few days when there isn't anything I have to do, that I cannot get anything accomplished.

Today I went to my school's portfolio show. Everyone there had excellent work and I hope they all get a great job and find success. After that, my friend Casey and I went around killing time in Dallas. I went to Good Records and got two Jim O'Rourke (of Sonic Youth) albums. I can't stop listening to them. It's always great to inject music into your life of styles you don't normally listen to.

There is a major stoner metal/doom metal show coming up in denton this weekend. I will be there and I will have copies of VOM.No.4 with me.

I've been very busy lately. I've been sleeping a whole lot, not doing hardly anything, going to classes when prompted, being bored, staying indoors, etc. When I'm not doing that I am trying to get stuff done like creating art or making books.

Lots of things have been happening. I recently took part in the Fort Worth Arts Goggle. It's a big arts fest where businesses and shops in the hospital district of Fort Worth host multiple artists work at each location. It's one of the only arts festivals i've ever truely enjoyed. This marked my first showing of art work.

BACK FROM THE DEAD

A lot of interesting things have happened since my last post;

I turned 20 on April the 20th. I had a cream soda/ root beer kegger complete with Virgil's all natural mini-party kegs. You can find them at some health food stores like whole foods, I suggest getting one, or nine like I did.

A good friend and talented artist who has been in the second issue of Vomitorium, Brent Parker, was asked along with me to create a t-shirt design for a local death metal band that consists of some of our best friends whom we've grown up with in the dallas/ft.worth metroplex. Here is what we came up with:

I've come a long way with my zine project. I didn't think it would last long or think people would be interested, but i'm working on no.4 right now. This next one will probably be printed "professionally" through an actual printer if I can get some people interested in advertising.

You can purchase the few remaining copies of Vomitorium No.2 through OINK or GORILLAMART. once they are gone they are gone until I print up a collection of the first handful of editions into one book, which won't be for a couple years... it's on sale at both sites.

Issue no.3 is available through the VOMITORIUM MYSPACE for $5.

Shirts are also still available there. They are limited to 100 printed.

And lastly I am putting together a zine with 2 new works of art by every artist and for sure future artists to be compiled and given to our closest friends/family/supporters. They will be very limited, probably 10-15.

My illustrations for this zine are my best yet. I used ink and paper, then digital color for all of them. I don't feel i should post any of my work from it cause they are really exclusive to the zine. Since there are only 6 illustrations of mine in this one, I think its best to let people see it through that zine and prints only. Soon I might have digital prints available of 2 of my illustrations.

I recently bought that beast of an art print. it could be the most beautiful thing hanging on the walls of my apartment other than my jane doe print and the two pictures of my deceased pets. so yeah... 1 of the 4 most beautiful things to grace my walls is finally hanging above my work table.

Florian does some incredibly detailed illustrations and designs for bands that I really like (converge, agoraphobic nosebleed, doomriders, etc.) and his work just keep getting better.

Lindsay's birthday was recent.. pretty long ago. But i finally got her a one of a kind present.

It snowed here randomly. then the next day it was 60 and hella sunny. thanks texas.

Lindsay and Rob went with me to Austin to meet up with Brent and co. for a celebration for the release of our zine. I declined to attend the party at a random co-op downtown to sleep... speaking of sleep, i got Holy Mountain by SLEEP at waterloo records. and a Pygmy Lush record.

We met up with some other friends who now live in Austin for lunch, then we went to see Mount Rightous play in a parking lot of Monkey Wrench Books.

Now I am working on a skate deck for an art show at a plano skatepark. The art institute of dallas selected 80 students to submit a deck, and the winner gets their board printed.

I still got a ways to go... i will POST pics when i am done.

Tonight I took some cool people to see some cool comedians say some cool jokes that made us all feel cool. Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter "tore it up" on stage at the Dallas House of blues. It was a great experience and we got to say hello to them afterwards. It was akward and i didn't want to seem like a fan boy or stalker so I just said hello/great show/cool shirt/thanks for coming, then snapped a picture with a very bad camera phone and the we left. I never realized how much of a little kid I look like.

CD PACKAGING

I'm currently finishing portfolio pieces which include event posters, a book cover, a brochure, 3d packaging, and CD packaging. I will be putting together my 3d box tomorrow, so I will post pictures of that when I am done. Till then, here is a rough mock up of CD packaging design I am working on. I had to create a fake band, fake album name, fake album linear notes, etc. So i put it all together in photoshop and illustrator using my photography.

The "band" is called Pale Kids and the album is titled Political.

I have a few issues to fix until I will print it for the final time.

Last Sunday I went and saw the Smashing Pumpkins. It was the first "show" or "concert" i've been to since I saw the locust a long time ago. It felt weird to be in a huge venue. But anyways it was a great show and something I would have loved to have seen sooner. I grew up secretly listening to the Smashing Pumpkins since my parents highly discouraged "rock" music. I remember sitting on my grandma's bed having to watch MTV on her tiny 10 inch cathode ray t.v. with a huge antenna. I remember perfectly the first time I heard/watched the video for 1979 when I was about 8 years old and how badly i wanted to go out and buy that CD. Too bad I was 8.

Anyways, I went with an old friend that I haven't seen in a while and my girlfriend, and another friend of ours who also liked the Pumpkins when he was a kid. They played for probably 2 hours plus and they played a lot of old material which made it memorable. I would post the setlist, but they havent put it on their website yet.

First My Cat, Now My Dog

Less than a month ago my cat, Traci, died of feline leukemia. Now a couple weeks later, my dog, Mandy, died of heart failure. Both these animals I had since i was about 3 or 4 so they have been a part of my life for the majority. I guess this is a sign that I really am getting older.

This weekend I went to my parent's house and my girlfriend and i stumbled upon a really funny lost dog. He looked like a Pomeranian and was pretty tiny. He looked like my girlfriend's dog named Jym, so we just called him Jym Jr. He had a collar but no tags on it. So we forced my ma to let us keep it at our house while we attempted finding it's owners, put up signs, etc. No luck that night, so my mom let him stay in the garage cause he pissed alllll over the room we put him in. I felt bad leaving my parents with him since i had to go home.

The next morning the owners called and were extremely happy we watched him and took him in. He had wandered extremely far for a dog and he would have really gotten lost if he followed our street further into the woods. he dogs name was "Toby" which i didn't think was as cool as Jymmy Jr. We were planing on naming him something cool if no one ever called about him. I have a feeling my ma would've given in and let us keep him. or at least let me take him. The owners brought my mom a cookie cake as a thanks.... pretttty coool i guess...

Old video I made for the Texas agressive metal band Verae. This was my first attempt at ever using any video software. I used iMovie and took all the photographs for the video with a Canon 20d.

If I were to remake this video, it would be a million times different.

I took the time to scan a handful of pictures from my past. When i first got a film camera I took pictures of everything at my house/outside my house/ anywhere/ etc. I had a 35mm film SLR camera, a medium format camera, a Polaroid camera that i got at a thrift store for 3 dollars that has the most disgusting yellow lens that makes everything nasty and unfocused. Here's some:

my first high school was right next to a piece of crap house that no one could sell. they had a broken car sitting around the place that all the kids used to go and beat, break, shatter, ruin, etc. I'm sure hundreds of kids have taken pictures of the same car in photojournalism but i decided to use a p.o.s. Polaroid to go along with a p.o.s. car.

Some of my friends moved into a house in Denton this past weekend. I even went as far as to help lay some hardwood floor for about five hours. Then the next day I rode some a girly bike to their place from another friend's. Super sweaty and we kinda got lost for a little bit. They weren't there when we arrived so we sat there for a while with one of the guy's parents.

Moved last weekend. Too bad it was in the triple digits of temperature whilst walking up and down the stairs back and forth and back and forth. Too damn hot to ride a bike anywhere as well... oh well. This place (plano/the colony) is "totally cool bro"

I saw the Simpsons and Sunshine twice. I suggest going and seeing them each twice. I got the new Deerhoof and it's pretty cool. Turns out one of my instructors likes them and saw them in Denton once. How cool is that. I got an itunes gift card unexpectedly and that led me to buy a Give Up the Ghost cd. Cool.

I'm back from Cyprus.... the country.... look on a globe if you don't know where it is, hint: it's in the Mediterranean sea. Anyways, I attended a great wedding, came home to stress, and now getting stuff back together. My camera lens was scratched, so all my pictures have bad splotches/scratches/shit skid marks.

Stuck on a mountain.

Best restaurant ever. Dunno what the hell that even says.

Soda companies make fruit drinks there... so many choices.

Wild cat or Cato as they are called in Greek, they were everywhere. Sadly they were dirty, no shots, and beat up.

Coma Kid

A new zine by Prego Plumer and I is on it's way. we are finishing our illustrations and then I will be in the process of creating it. They will be cheap and 20 pages of illustrations/doodles/cartoons/jokes/scribbles in black and white. 10 by him, and 10 by me.

Whenever I am done with them, I will have information on getting them on here and my for sale blog. Keep an eye out for that.

A little while ago my uncle's dog passed away. His name was Bear and was a great dog and a lot of fun. He will be missed.
